Description
C PHOTO NINE proposes a partial but heterogeneous discourse about a collective history, proposing what could possibly be a new way of thinking about gender. This discourse sets up a dialogue between divergent historical debates linked to the changes all women have undergone, whether feminist or no. There is, however, no ‘photography made by women’ that can be stylistically distinguished from ‘photography made by men’. But even as photography cannot be defined by gender, women are a timeless and recurring motif and their role and representation are the subject of much debate. The photographs in C PHOTO NINE appear to overlap in an exploration of the dividing line between reality and representation as seen from differing standpoints, not always in agreement and not always combative. Essays from; Aminatta Forma, Kathleen Bühler, Cara Phillips, Jindrich Toman. Interview with Lola Garrido. Archive from V&A Museum. Photographes from;Cindy Sherman, Barry Kay, Jean-Paul Goude, Sarah Faust, Juliana Beasley, Dariusz Kantor, Zoe Strauss, Annie Leibovitz, Jordi Gual, Veru Iché, Ilse Bing, Ugo Rondinone among others.
