Part of an ongoing project dedicated to making rare and out-of-print photography books accessible to a new generation of enthusiasts. Each edition in the series presents the entire content, page for page, of an original bookwork, that has up until now been too rare or prohibitively expensive for most to experience. Arguably one of the more important photography books published, ‘American Photographs’ was originally conceived as a catalogue to accompany the photographers one-man show at the Museum of Modern Art in 1938. Here the original 1938 edition with its 87 legendary black and white photographs that defined Evans’ documentary style are presented, accompanied by essays from Lincoln Kirsten and John T. Hill, along with select bibliographic information.
